Lunar shots

I have been working on a few projects over the past couple of months, a couple of birthday parties, a book and a year long project charting a babys development. one phto a week for 12 months to create a lasting montage. I will post it when I finnish. another project I am currently working onj is a lunar phase photo. to complete this I am taking a photo per day of the moon then creating a montage of the phases of the moon. we are on day 14 of a 28 day journey.
The moon is quite easy to photograph, I am using a 55-250 lens, on a canon 30D, shutter settings were F9, 1/250 sec, this has changed the past couple of mornings as the moon is rising later and the shy is already light, now approx F5.6, and 1/400 sec.

I also managed a good one with some cloud cover.

cloudy sky

after getting inspiration from a photo I saw on the internet, I decided to finally try a composition utilising some cloud photos I took a while back.
I added the clouds over 4 layers then blended.
the moon was another layer, blended using overlay.
the trees were cut from another photo then cloned over the base of the picture.
the fireworks were a last minute addition to give it a "disney'' feel. i hope that you like it.

Toy Town

I have had a few trys at alternative photo manipulation, using lots of plug ins and trial software.

After reading in a photography magazine about a photographer who does lots of toy town style photos, I thought I would give it a go.[ sorry I dont have the article or remember the photogs name, but he was the inspiration behind this photo.]
He said that many photos could be altered in this way, the basic phot though needed to be taken from a high vantage point for it to work successfully

This image was originally taken from the London eye, the image was not as sharp and crisp as I like so was originally not worked, but by utilising some gausian blur and several masks I think that it now is a useable addition to my portfolio.

Strobist

Hi, recently had family over on holiday, and they wanted a few family photos.

as you know, a plumbers tap always drips, a builders house is never complete, and a photographer well.....

So on the morning we are taking them to the airport, and with only 20 mins till we leave, we decide to take the family snaps.

I quickly reverse the car out of the garage, or as I refer to it, 'my studio', grab a couple of flashes, a canon 430ex and a 580ex and take a couple of test shots to set the flashes to the correct exposure. 15 minutes later the shoot is over, we are loading the car and off to the airport.

here is one of the shots, I thought a keeper.

Transition

Hi, i am transitioning my old blog over to Blogger so you may have to bear with me if i lose anything or screw up the move. My first post here is going to be on HDR.

Love it or hate it it is here to stay. Some people have very strong views on it, either because they are Purists, and do not want photographs interfered with, I find this strange, as to me HDR is just a progression, and if we do not progress we would still be enjoying our art [ photography] on glass plates with silver [ not that they were bad,] just very expensive and ''old hat''.

I have been trying a couple of tutorials I found on the net, from www.stuckincustoms.com/hdr-tutorial/

Here are a couple of my attempts at HDR, one is a painterly effect, the other hardly looks modified until you see the original, taken in bright sunlight looking into a dark cage/ room.

what do you think, do you like hdr? or are you against it?
